Beams of Light

Beams of Light is an installation first presented in Not Another Art Shop Gallery in Athens, Greece, on 03/06/2015.

The installation was created within my PhD reserch concerning performative and visual ways of theaching science. The main theme of this piece of work is light.

Inside the back room of Not Another Art Shop Gallery, we will create an extra space, a place out of a person’s imagination in the clouds (use of the smoke machine). The place is as dark as it can be and there is only the light from the projector on the white wall as well as the beams of the blue lazer lights cutting through the smoke, once appearing and then disappearing as the smoke will constantly move due to the ventilation.

When the observer walks into the space can not see the projection at once. Is only able to hear to some baffled voices and music coming from the first set of speakers installed near the entrance of the room. The voices are supposed to be from the beams of light (children of the sun, as they usually refer to themselves throughout the play) and in reality they are the recordings of the actors reading the play. The actual play is a composition of different types of literature, poems, songs, scientists sayings and descriptions of experiments, myths from around the world referring to the genesis of the universe. Some are really close to fantasy but the scientific ones are tested and accepted for their accuracy.

When the observer comes further inside the installation, the sound and the voices clear and can really pay attention to the text as well as see the projection which is a composition of a young and bright face, representing the beams of light, wearing white and in a state of slow motion/ underwater/ overexposed imaginary.

The soundscape and the video will not exceed 8 minutes, in order not to lose the attention of the observer who can vary in age, educational background or involvement with the arts. The space will be installed in a way were the people inside will be able to easily move around or come and go whenever they wish.

***Φαντάσου έναν κόσμο, τόσο μεγεθυμένο όπου τα σωματίδιά μας θα έμοιαζαν με μπάλεςκανονιού! Σκέψου πως αν η όρασή μας φτάνει μέχρι ένα ορισμένο σημείο, η φαντασία μας μπορεί να μας ταξιδέψει ακόμα παραπέρα.

Το "Beams of light" είναι μια εγκατάσταση που μεταφέρει τον θεατή κατευθείαν μέσα στα σύννεφα! Καπνός, γαλάζιες ακτίνες από leizer blue beams, κείμενα βασισμένα σε ποιήματα, τραγούδια, χωρία βιβλίων ή και φράσεις επιστημόνων και σχετίζονται με την γέννηση και παρατήρηση του φωτός, προκαλούν τον θεατή να αφήσει τη φαντασία του ελεύθερη, να την ακολουθήσει και να μπει σε μια ονειρική ατμόσφαιρα.

Το ηχητικό περιβάλλον καθώς και τη μουσική που συνοδεύει την εγκατάσταση - βασισμένα κυρίως σε μπάσους ήχους ώστε και άνθρωποι με περιορισμένη ακοή να έχουν την αίσθηση του ρυθμού - υπογράφει ο μπασίστας Παύλος Μαραγκός και είναι εμπνευσμένα από το ίδιο το έργο.

Statment: Apo ton Kathrefti Mesa ston Kathrefti/ From A Mirror in A Mirror

Το Απο τον Καθρέφτη μέσα στον Καθρέφτη, έιναι μια σκηνική σύνθεση της ομάδας Atomic No6, που θα πρωτοπαρουσιαστεί στον θεατρικό χώρο της Πολιτείας στην Πάτρα στις 20 Απρίλη. Θα μπορούσαμε πιο απλά να πούμε ότι θα είναι μια θεατρική παράσταση ή ένας μονόλογος βασισμένος στο πρώτο κείμενο του βιβλίου Ο Καθρέφτης μέσα στον Καθρέφτη του γερμανού συγκραφέα Μίχαελ Έντε. Ο τρόπος όμως που αντιμετωπίζουμε, δραματοποιούμε, προσθέτουμε και πρόκειται να παρουσιάσουμε το κείμενο αυτό είναι πολύ κοντινός στον τρόπο που ένας καλλιτέχνης εργάζεται για τη δημιουργία μιας εγκατάστασης. Θα είναι λοιπόν μια σκηνική εγκατάσταση, σύνθεση πολλών εκφραστικών μέσων. Κείμενο, λόγος, μουσική, ηχητική και video εγκατάσταση, σκηνική παρουσιαση, μηχανικός και ανθρώπινος παράγοντας. Και όλο αυτό θα στεγάζεται σε μια σκηνή παραδοσιακού τύπου, σε ένα θέατρο προσκηνίου. Το θέμα της σύνθεσης αυτής θα είναι η παρουσίαση ενός πλάσματος που ζει μέσα και έξω απο τον χρόνο, ίσως μέσα στον καθένα από εμάς, τώρα ή πάντα. Θα δούμε λοιπόν τον Χορ, και τον εσωτερικό κόσμο αυτού, που βρίσκεται σε κοινωνική απομόνωση. Απομόνωση ειδωμένη ως επέκταση και προέκταση του κοινωνικού αποκλεισμου που προκαλέιται απο λόγους όπως ο απομονωτισμός του τρόπου ζωής της σύγχρονης κοινωνίας, η επιστροφή στο εγώ μας προερχόμενη από την συγκρουση με τα εγώ των γύρω. Μια πρόταση τρέλας και ασυνέχειας, μια πρόταση εσωτερικής εικονοποίησης του μικρού μας εαυτού που ζεί στο λαβύρινθο του εγκεφάλου. Μια εικόνα του χαμένου πλάσματος με τις απεριόριστες δυνατότητες, του κυρίαρχου του μυαλού μας, της έκφρασης ή έκφανσης του υποσυνειδήτου. Μια κραυγή ενός εγκλωβισμένου ήχου που ζεί στην ασφάλεια της ανεξαρτητοποιημένης μοναξιάς μας. From A Mirror in a Mirror is a performative installation, created by Atomic No6, presented on the 20th of April 2012 at Polichoros Politeia, Patras, Greece. Someone could easily say that it is a play or an one act performance based on the first text of the book, Mirror in a Mirror (Michael Ende, Germany). But, the way we approached this text was not just that of creating a theatre play. In this "presentation" there is text, theatrical performance, speech, music, video and sound installation, the appearance of a physical actor on stage, the existence of another recorded actor from somewhere else, human and mechanical factors, and all these presented in a proscenium theatre -this time-. The subject of this installation is the presentation of the creature that lives inside and outside or the realm of time or space, possibly inside of each and every one of us, now and forever. We saw and we shall see Hor, and the world inside him and the word of the "someone" living in social isolation. The social isolation that derives as an expansion and extension of the isolation of the way of our lives, of the current society or the return to our inner ego. A proposal in madness and a proposal of in-continuity. A frame of the creature with the endless abilities -the master of our brain- lost in the endless labyrinth . A scream of a confined sound living u=in the safety of our endless independent loneliness.
